Innovative Technology Can Bring Modernization to Retail Environments

Retailers are always looking for new ways to attract customers into their store through window displays. Not only is this the most expensive real estate in retail, well-fashioned window displays can turn ordinary merchandise into brand experiences that keep people coming to and talking about the store.

As part of a workshop at Pratt Institute, entitled Form and Technology, Ben Nimes envisioned a new style of storefront window utilizing Planar® LookThru™ transparent LCD technology. In this futuristic design, the manikins are nude and the transparent displays animate with a live fashion show of clothing and accessories. Perhaps in a carousel of options or something that viewers on the street can select using an integrated touch or gesture system. The enclosed space behind the glass could be well-lit not only to show off the merchandise, but to maximize the contrast of the imagery on the display face.
