  3. On the Display tab, under Display options, tap Calibrate and then Yes to allow the program to make changes.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the touch screen.

5. Do the Projected Capacitive Multi-Touch monitors need a calibration utility for Windows 8, 7 or XP operating systems?

No, you don't need a calibration utility for Windows OS. The Projective Capacitive is scanning the matrix of X and Y axial and mapping with preset coordinates, working like digital switch, then determinate the coordinate, as soon as the relative position of the touch sensor and LCD panel is fix, the coordinate will be always accurate.

It is possible for you to install the Touch Kit driver then execute the 4 points calibration, but the Windows embedded HID driver will be removed consequently. The SAW and Resistive touch are working by detecting the analog ratio of the point that you touch then determinate the coordinate, because the ratio may related to the senor characteristics, it need to do the calibration to touch the corners and compare to the defined value on the driver then adjust accordingly.

6. Do I lose Multi-Touch features if a driver is installed on my Projected Capacitive Multi-Touch monitors?

Yes, The Projected Capacitive Multi-Touch monitors will be no longer HID digitizer devices and become HID mouse device, that can't support multi-touch gesture under Windows 7, which means it only support single touch.

7. How do I uninstall TouchKit driver?

You have 2 ways to uninstall the driver:

  1. Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program > Double Click on TouchKit > Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the driver
  2. Start > All Programs > TouchKit > Uninstall > Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the driver

Yes, you can install the XP driver for all PT monitors. Just disable the Enhanced Write Filter (EWF) and install the standard XP driver, then enable the EWF again.

12. How would I clean the Touchscreen?

Use a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water or a non-abrasive glass cleaner. Avoid using cleaners other than glass cleaners. Do not use any vinegar-based solutions.

  • Apply the cleaner with a clean soft cloth.
  • Always dampen the cloth and then clean the screen.
  • Always handle the touchscreen with care. Do not pull on or stress the cables.

Planar has also confirmed that the following items can be safely used to clean Planar PT models:

  • Quaternary ammonium (Virex, PDI Sanicloth HB)
  • Bleach 5.25% or 6.25% at (1:10 dilution-1:100)
  • Quaternary ammonium in combination with 70% alcohol (iso or ethanol) (PDI Sanicloth or PDI Super Sanicloth)

13. No touch after fresh driver installation.

More than likely this is due to a resource conflict. The touchscreen cannot share an IRQ with another device in your system configuration, even though the other device may support IRQ sharing. Your PC configuration must have a unique communication (COM) port and interrupt request (IRQ) available to assign to the Touchscreen. Use the OS Device Manager to display and eliminate any resource conflicts.

14. What certifications are currently in place for the PT touch monitors?

There are two types of certification:

  • Electrical safety
  • EMC emissions

The monitors are certified and listed for electrical safety per UL/CUL(US and Canada) and TUV (German agency, but widely accepted by most of Europe). Standard of certification is UL 60950: March 2002 and EN 60950:2000 respectively.

The monitors are certified and listed for EMC per two standards: FCC (US) but virtual universal acceptance by Canada; and CE (Europe).
