Transparent Displays at CES 2017

The Consumer Electronics Show 2017 officially opened its doors today, celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary. We're seeing lots of really cool new technology, as well as innovative uses of transparent OLED displays. At Intel's booth, a cyclist rides alongside a Planar LookThru transparent OLED display showing real-time data about his performance and heart rate. Check it out:   More images from the Intel Booth of the Planar LookThru transparent OLED display: Planar LookThru transparent OLED display in the Corning Booth: If you are at the show, stop by the Planar and Leyard booth #30645.

The Truth about the "Wow Factor"

“Wow” is something you get once. You don’t get it the second time. Repeat visitors can get bored and tune out the thing that originally stopped them in their tracks. Every brand and retailer wants a “Wow” effect in their space. I'm Loving It

Ever since Daniel Pink published a travel tip about the hidden benefits of eating at McDonald’s when you travel internationally (you can get a clear picture of cultural and gastronomical differences in short order, pardon the pun), I have been fascinated by the differences in McDonald’s menus around the world.  Chicken Mexican Wraps, a McRice burger, or lobster rolls are all on the menus at McDonald’s somewhere (Mexico, Taiwan and Montreal, respectively). Photo courtesy of McDonalds Times Square Fast forward to this past month when Portland-based brand fan, Jeb Boniakowski, posted an open letter to McDonald’s executives on TheAwl.com suggesting More…

Planar LookThru Display Box Adapted Into Multiple Industries

Earlier this summer Pratt Institute hosted the Form and Technology workshop under leadership of Scott VanderVoort. The goal of this workshop was to intersect the latest Planar products with the fresh creativity of Pratt’s design students and thought leaders. The students spent a lot of time working with a sample of the 32” Planar® LookThru™ transparent display. During this workshop the students at Pratt Institute generated ideas of how Planar’s pioneering transparent technology could be incorporated into different industry settings. Here are two inspiring creations the Pratt team envisioned using the transparent LCD surface glass. 1)Jacob Turetsky More…
