How Long is 50,000 Hours?

The typical lifetime of Leyard and Planar’s LCD display solutions is 50,000 hours. That means that if you turn on a Clarity® Matrix® LCD Video Wall right now, the LCD displays will run for 50,000 hours before they achieve half-brightness (and will continue to run beyond that, of course). Let’s put it all into perspective: 50,000 hours is over 5 years 50,000 hours is over 297 weeks 50,000 hours is over 2,083 days What could you do in 50,000 hours? You could travel to the moon and back 347 times. You could drive from Los Angeles, California to New York, New York 2,439 times. You could have Lord of the Rings Trilogy marathon over 73 More…

What is Digital Signage?

I recently spoke at the Digital Signage Federation and Digital Signage Expo sponsored panel discussion called “Coffee and Controversy” and one of the questions posed to the panel was whether the name “digital signage” was a benefit or hindrance to the industry. The term has been used by market researchers to describe the kinds of screens that are used in public venues, versus residential, consumer or television products. The term “digital signage” being used as a synonym with “public information displays.” The term has been a catchall for a variety of technologies, ranging from displays to players to content creation for applications ranging from More…

Certain features might be poorly imitated, but not replicated by followers in the market, Clarity Matrix stands as an example of how experience and expertise in a field leads to new innovations More…

We asked her questions about her passionate work in wayfinding and a new trend that she has identified called “playfinding.” Q.  Leslie, thanks for chatting about trends in wayfinding today. You have used the term “playfinding.” Can you explain what it is and what More…

Dear Santa

Dear Santa,I have been very good this year. I am hoping that you can make all my dreams come true and bring me the best gift of all: Pixel Paint. This amazing emissive material could be slathered onto the wall like latex paint (VOC-free, of course) and be patterned to any shape, size, or scale. I could fill the wall or paint stripes. It would not require a projector or other sort of display device. It would be a display. Using wireless technology for power and input source, I’d be able to take my new media player, which is also on my Christmas list, or my handy-dandy laptop and fill the entire painted surface with the design or video of my More…
