It’s 2:00 p.m. in a heatwave in South Dakota. 105 degrees F. in the midday sun and Paul Neritz is gape-mouthed in front of the comics store window. There it is: his personal holy grail, a Superman original first edition. Dad better buy it quickly. Paul may never get this chance again. Dad sprints for the nearest ATM and punches in his PIN. Minutes later he’s back, counting out twenties and not even considering all that it takes to make an ATM screen that works perfectly in heat, dust, wind, rain, and sub-zero temperatures. He doesn’t need to because we do it for him. Sometimes you just need a display that’s superhero tough. |
