While some Planar customers depend on their monitors for diagnosing life-threatening illnesses or expect them to withstand extreme temperatures or vibration, Mark McCarthy demands just one thing: accuracy. As creative director for Planned Marketing Solutions, a Portland, Oregon based strategic marketing and design firm, McCarthy depends on the agency’s six PX212M 21-inch flat panel monitors for displaying crisp, clear images that accurately reproduce colors—even subtle variations in color or brightness.
“It’s all part of a chain,” said McCarthy. “The quality of the final printed piece depends on our monitors being accurate, our printers being accurate and the pre-press proof being accurate.”
McCarthy and his graphic designers have been using the Planar monitors for about six months, switching from CRT monitors, which McCarthy said had begun to fade. Linked to Macintosh G5 computers, the monitors display photos, text, illustrations and Web pages created in graphic-intensive applications.
“In this business, Apple monitors are standard, but we chose the Planars,” McCarthy said. “Our designers like the overall clarity and the height-to-width ratio seems better for fitting a two-page spread with room for toolbars on the bottom of the screen. “After using the Planar monitors, everything on our old CRTs looks real fuzzy.”
